Tips from a Skincare Specialist

We spoke to Cherelle, Skincare Specialist and Founder of Le’Skin Consultancy, who shared her tips on how to care for your skin.

  1. Do not pick your skin! She says "I would suggest to limit how much you touch your face as your hands carry so much bacteria and dirt."

Many acne suffers may be tempted to pick spots, but this can cause more damage to the skin and prolong healing time for the spot. Kiss (acne patch protection) are hydrocolloid patches which absorb moisture and are commonly used to help heal chronic wounds. Our acne patches are breathable, biodegradable and help to keep bacteria away from spots and avoid reinfection. They are great for preventing spot picking and may also be worn under your face mask, throughout the day, during the night or even when out and about as they are invisible! 1. Be gentle with skin. She says "Do not be rough on the skin EVER"

We recommend using warm water when rinsing the skin and patting dry. The best water temperature is warm as cold water does not effectively remove the daily build-up of dirt. Hot water may irritate and dry out your skin, but warm water effectively helps to loosen the dirt, but preserves your skin's natural hydrating oils too!

  1. Stay hydrated. She says "please drink loads of water, a minimum of 2 litres"

Although there's no hard evidence to confirm that drinking water makes a difference on the skin, if we become severely dehydrated it can certainly impact the skin. Fortify (toning protection) is a natural rose water that's designed to strengthen the skin's outer layer by resetting pH balance. The skin’s ability to hold water, or remain hydrated, is critical for maintaining healthy skin. It’s suitable for all skin types and gentle for application after double cleansing the skin. 1. Avoid the sun. She says "Stay out of the sun unless you have a very high sun factor to protect you from UVA/UVB rays"

We recommend that you use SPF all year round! This is extremely important – including during the winter. SPF has considerable benefits for your skin, notably protecting it from UV rays that can cause wrinkles, dullness, loss of firmness as well as uneven skin pigmentation. Products with added SPF, when applied regularly, have been proven to help prevent these visible signs of ageing. Natural sources of SPF include ingredients such as sweet almond oil, coconut oil, zinc oxide, carrot seed oil and shea butter, which all contain natural SPF protection between 4-40.

  1. Use clean linen. She says "Change your face towel/pillow cases regularly"

A small but necessary change for maintaining a clean skincare routine. You can also lay a fresh, clean towel over your pillow to sleep on every night to protect your face from built-up skin cells, oil, dirt and bacteria on your pillowcases.

  1. Use a skincare routine. She says "Make sure you have a good skincare routine that you do daily (minus exfoliating and masking as they should be added in weekly depending on your skin type)"

We recommend using the 4-Step Kit twice a day. The 4-Step Kit is ideal for all skin types and may also be used on acne prone skin, blemishes, dark marks, acne scars and hyperpigmentation. The 4-Step skincare routine should be used twice per day in the morning and evening.

We always start with step 1 (dirt cleansing protection) to cleanse any dirt from the skin. It's important to protect skin against dirt by removing any build-up of oils and make-up. In fact, our dirt cleansing protection is perfect for heavy makeup users and may be applied to wet or dry skin. This cleanser also protects against blackheads and whiteheads to keep skin clear from acne.

Our inspiration for step 2 (double cleansing protection) comes from the K-Beauty (Korean Beauty) methodologies which promotes double cleansing for clearer skin.

After cleansing skin step 3 (toning protection) is to strengthen the skin's outer layer by resetting pH balance. The skin’s ability to hold water, or remain hydrated, is critical for maintaining healthy skin. Natural ingredients include rose water and pink rose petals to maintain skin’s pH balance, control excess oil, reduce redness, eliminate acne, dermatitis and eczema; aloe vera to heal and soothe skin; and vitamin E to nourish and protect skin, and reduce UV damage. Our cleansing toner also includes citric acid that contains antioxidant properties for brighter skin.

Toned skin should be followed by step 4 (oil cleansing protection) to maintain skin's hydration to support with acne, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and plumping. This multipurpose oil, which may be applied to the face and body, contains avocado oil with vitamins, A, D and E to moisturise and protect skin; argan oil to regulate sebum on the skin for a smoother and calmer complexion; almond oil to treat eczema, psoriasis, improve acne and dissolve excess oil on the skin; rosehip oil rich in fatty acids and antioxidants to regenerate skin cells, reduce scars and fine lines; pink rose petals to maintain skin’s pH balance, control excess oil, reduce redness, eliminate acne, dermatitis and eczema; vitamin E to nourish and protect skin, and reduce UV damage; and mandarin oil to brighten the skin, reduce acne and reduce oily skin

  1. Facials! She says "Book your facials in every 4-6 weeks to maintain the results and keep your skin looking and feeling healthy"
