How to keep pores clear with natural oils?
Today we are talking about pores and how to keep them clear. Firstly, let’s start by understanding more about the meaning of noncomedogenic oils. Skincare products made with comedogenic oils may clog your pores, eventually causing the eruption of comedones (clogged pores), whereas noncomedogenic oils do not have this effect. We specifically use a high percentage of noncomedogenic oils in our formulations to keep dry skin moisturised and oily skin acne-free. Using oils that allow the skin to breathe, stay hydrated and free from breakouts is our main priority at Like It On Top.
When our pores get clogged with oil and dirt, this can effectively cause breakouts in the form of blackheads, whiteheads and bumps on the skin. Some noncomedogenic oils have a variety of skin benefits, such as anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Why do we use natural ingredients?
We use natural ingredients for skin care, such as argan oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, glycerine, which are all noncomedogenic oils due to their low comedogenic rating. Whilst avocado oil has a moderate comedogenic rating of 3, we use it because it deeply nourishes the skin to improve moisture levels and more importantly improve skin tone. Avocado contains a blend of omega fatty acids, phytosterols and vitamin E which work together to stimulate cell growth, reduce pore size, and increase the production of collagen. Another major benefit of avocado oil is that it contains plant steroids (sterolins), which have the ability to heal scars and diminish age spots.
As noncomedogenic oils don’t clog pores, these oils are great for many different types of skin, from dry to oily. Grapeseed oil is great for ageing skin as it can help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on dry skin, as well as a spot treatment for pimples. Sweet almond oil also adds moisture and assists with reducing cracked skin on areas of the body such as the elbows and knees, which is why we use this in Protect (multipurpose body protection) to keep your body moisturised.
What about essential oils?
Essential oils are plant chemicals extracted with steam from different parts of the plant, such as the stem, root, leaf, seed or flower. We use plant extracts such as mandarin essential oil, as it’s effective on acne-prone skin and helps to calm irritated and congested skin with its anti-septic and sedative properties. We use tea tree oil because it can kill bacteria and has been shown to reduce acne. We use lemongrass essential oil as it contains vitamin A and C, and other properties to minimise your pores as well as keep your oil levels balanced. We use ginger essential oil for its anti-ageing properties and ability to soothe conditions such as eczema and acne. Lavender essential oil is ideal for ageing skin as it has anti-inflammatory properties to promote healthy cell turnover, as well as assist with eczema, psoriasis and acne prone skin. You can find tea tree oil in Pump (face mask protection) or lavender in Grind (face scrub protection).
How can a skincare routine keep pores clear?
We recommend using our 4-Step Kit skincare routine to double cleanse twice per day, in the morning and night. This is very important, especially if you have oily skin, because you need to remove the build up of excess oil which occurs during the night, as well as throughout the day. Our oil-based cleanser ensures that all traces of dirt and make-up are effectively removed. Our water-based cleanser (Stroke) is a double cleansing lather process designed to leave the skin squeaky clean.
A little goes a long way
Follow the steps and recommended directions! It’s important to use our products as directed. A little goes a long way and there’s no need to add more in the hope that this might speed up the skincare process. In any case it’s important to do a patch test on the skin before adding any new skincare products to your daily routine. Simply apply a small amount of product to a clear area of skin, such as the wrist and wait at least 24 hours before introducing to your daily skincare routine.
What do our customers say about using oils?
Honey says “Sustain: Amazing! I have really sensitive skin & a lot of oils don’t agree with my skin but this seems to be amazing and I’ve had no irritation”
Amy says “Love it on top! All of these products are amazing! My dry/oily/ eczema prone skin loves it all! Thank you!”
Benjamin says “Works for oily skin: First time oil cleansing and I can feel deep dirt being removed and my face is clearing up. Being a man with naturally oily skin I’m happy with the results.”
Emily says “Gentle yet effective: I've been using the sustain oil for about 2 weeks now and I have definitely already noticed a difference. My skin had a huge breakout in summer and is very sensitive so has been difficult to treat. I've definitely noticed a quicker reduction in hyperpigmentation than with other products and I haven't had any itchiness or dryness which I can get with new products. Any new pimples (I usually get painful ones around my jaw) have been much less inflamed/painful and also not taken as long to heal. I like that everything is natural and you can actually understand every ingredient in the bottle and its purpose. Will definitely repurchase. For reference, I have oily/combination skin with hormonal acne and I'm 26. Don't let the word oil put you off!”
Zarreen says “So far, so good: I’ve just finished my bottle after about 2 weeks and can say I definetly saw an improvement in my skin. Some of my stubborn hyperpigmentation marks have started to fade already and my skin is so smooth. I was a little worried about it being a really “oily oil” but it’s not, it sinks into the skin so nicely and makes it feel so soft and hydrated. It also smells and looks lovely. I’m about to place an order for the 100 ml”
