Benefits of plant-based skincare for Veganuary
It's #Veganuary and we pride ourselves on offering only plant-based skincare at Like It On Top. January is a month-long celebration of all things vegan, created to encourage non-vegans to try out the lifestyle.
Most cosmetics feature some form of animal-derived content, but at Like It On Top we only use botanical ingredients that work in harmony to support and nourish the skin.
Our product range is natural, vegan and plantbased, meaning that we have replaced some traditional cosmetic ingredients with plant based options, such as using candelilla wax instead of beeswax. Candelilla wax is a wax derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. We use candelilla wax to produce Drip (lip scrub protection) to nourish, moisturise and maintain skin's softness and assist with lip pigmentation.
We have also replaced honey with agave syrup which is derived from several species of the agave plant, including Agave tequilana (blue agave) and Agave salmiana. We use agave to produce Juicy and Wet lips scrubs!
All of our products contain organic plant ingredients and extracts, chosen for their purity and reputation for assisting with calming, balancing and restoring the structure of the skin.
We use jojoba oil and grapeseed oil to moisturise dry, sensitive skin and smooth out blemishes, wrinkles and fine lines; pumpkin seed oil to help skin retain moisture, fight free radicals and maintain a youthful appearance; vitamin E oil, a powerful anti-oxidant to nourish and protect skin, and reduce UV damage; and lemongrass oil, a herb containing vitamin A and C to keep skin glossy and smelling fruity of course! You can find these ingredients in Filth (dirt cleansing protection), which also works well as a make-up remover on wet or dry skin.
Other plant based ingredients include argan oil to regulate sebum on the skin for a smoother and calmer complexion; ginger oil to soothe redness and eliminate bacteria associated with acne; turmeric which is an anti-inflammatory to reduce scars, heal wounds and calm the skin; aloe vera to heal and soothe skin; vitamin E oil to nourish and protect skin, and reduce UV damage; and citric acid to exfoliate top layers of skin to brighten, shrink pores, treat acne and correct dark spots. These ingredients can be found in Stroke (double cleansing protection).
We also use rose water and pink rose petals in Fortify (toning protection) to maintain skin’s pH balance, control excess oil, reduce redness, eliminate acne, dermatitis and eczema; aloe vera to heal and soothe skin; and vitamin E to nourish and protect skin, and reduce UV damage. Our cleansing toner also includes citric acid that contains antioxidant properties for brighter skin.
We recommend using our 4-Step Kit to revitalise and cleanse the skin, as well as treat acne and prevent breakouts. Cleansing skin twice each day can assist with treating dryness, skin irritation and skin redness. Anti-inflammatory ingredients within the 4-Step Kit, such as turmeric and vitamin E, can help soothe irritated skin.
